
Dr. Roman Novozhilov is the Head of ESG at the New Development Bank, a Shanghai-based multilateral development bank established by BRICS countries for financing infrastructure projects in emerging markets. He has over 20 years of global experience in Environmental, Social and Governance matters.
He joined the newly-created NDB in 2017 to launch its ESG function and is responsible for integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects in NDB’s credit and equity products and for delivering ESG advisory services to NDB’s clients.
Before joining NDB, Dr. Novozhilov was with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in Washington, D.C., Johannesburg and Hong Kong, focusing on managing ESG risks of IFC’s investments and helping IFC clients to improve their ESG performance. Before that, he held various roles in sustainability policy research at the World Bank in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Novozhilov holds a Ph.D. from American University (Washington D.C.), an M.A. from Lancaster University (UK), and a B.S. from St. Petersburg State University (Russia). He is a Chartered Alternative Investments Analyst (CAIA) and Certified ESG Analyst (CESGA).
